A little candy with some real heat.... Nov 18, 2010

I have had problems with nausea pretty much off and on for the past six months or so,the kind that feels like motion sickness or the first months of pregnancy, and wanted to try something natural to remedy the queasiness, having gotten little relief from other traditional current treatments such as Phenergan ( prescription Promethazine). Antihistimines and chewing gum sort of eased my suffering somewhat, as did chewing ice or sipping soft drinks, but not by much, and tablets for heartburn or dyspepsia did nothing for the nausea. The nausea seems worst first thing in the morning, actually waking me up from sleep, but will also return frequently in the mid-afternoon and late evening. Having read that ginger was a old fashioned yet effective treatment, I decided to try crystalized ginger, but then saw these listed here on Amazon and, having a weakness for candy or mints in cute little tins, and likewise a love of orange flavoring, I decided to try these instead.
I have to admit to having not a lot of experience with ginger or any ginger candy in the past, so was rather suprised at the heat of these candies. They are truly spicy to the max, but the orange flavoring makes them much more palatable. They do seem to help with the nausea, but I can't chew them as frequently as needed, as the heat and spicy taste is just more than I'm used to, causing me to need a drink of soda or water just to cool down my tongue. The first few even made my eyes water and my nose run! I would still rate them fairly highly, however, as they do have a nice taste, if you can stand the power of the ginger or even like it a lot, as many people do. The tin is just as cute as can be, perfect size for purse or bag, and has a slider top for convenience. The candies are very chewy, but come individually prewrapped and tucked neatly into the tin, and were not stuck whatever to the paper wrappings. You can also buy larger bags of the same candy or other flavors of it to refill your little tin. Overall, I would recommend them for purchase as a palative and probably harmless treatment for nausea or vomiting, or just if you love the taste of strong ginger candy, especially that which has a very powerful spicy and interesting taste.

I received the product after several E-mails asking about the status. The product was poorly packaged you could see the product without opening the package (envelope ripped). Who sends 5 lbs of chimes in a postal envelope? The wrong type of chime were sent (Ginger instead of Mango). I called for them to correct the error. They said they would but never did. I have sent several follow-up e-mails without any response. Amazon is also culpable in this matter for choosing a lousy vendor! I would like to speak to an Amazon vendor about this matter!!!!!!!

I was feeling queasy while riding as a passenger in a van not long ago when a friend gave me a Chimes to "settle your stomach". I loved it and did feel marginally better. Since then I keep Chimes with me at all times. They certainly are not medicinal, but the real ginger does seem to calm tummies a bit and the taste is fabulous. Not as sweet as some hard candy, the ginger taste is strong and refreshing. Overall this is great when I'm hungry, or just want to feel fresher - use it instead of Tic Tacs after a meal out. Have given these to friends; most love them although some find the taste too strong. Like the original flavor best.

I bought a few cans of these after trying one that a friend offered. I enjoyed them so much I went and bought several tins. Shortly after I got them, a different friend started chemo and the nausea was terrible. I went ahead and gave her one of my tins of chews on the off chance it would help as nothing else seemed to do the trick. As it turns out, these orange flavored ginger chews are the only thing she can stomach on a regular basis after her treatment. We've tried other flavors but the orange ones are the only flavor that really help for some reason. We were lucky to have discovered these when we did. While they can't save her life, at least they provide some enjoyment and help to minimize her discomfort after treatment. In a situation like this, every little bit helps.

My mom brought some back from Hong Kong recently. I had never heard of them. I normally don't eat much candy, but these things are awesome! They are not real sweet... more like... gingermangoee tasting. :)
